Snowflakes points to a case where the police insist on testing a gun that the owner handed over after a traffic accident.
I think it is a waste of time and resources for the police to run a ballistics test on any firearm that happens to come into their possession, especially from situations that are not crime scenes.
From the article it seems to me that the police have a “policy” that is at odds with the law.

Think lawyers are scumbags? Heck make them judges! Perhaps we should get former Mafiosos to oversee racketeering cases or sex offenders to preside over rape cases.

This is just downright stupid. I don’t believe that there is a connection to crime and not having enough senior managers. Would you rather add 3 or 4 cops to the beat or another paper-pusher to an office building?

What is being proposed would be a tough job to get done. The EU doesn't all speak the same language and I am sure that their police forces are not structured in the same way. Data sharing sounds good, but it would also allow neighboring countries to data mine the crime data of neighboring countries.
