The revolution has been cancelled.

This is a must read piece: Awkward. This piece is extremely well written and superbly researched.

From reading the comments I see a lot of chest thumping and calls for action. This reads like so much keyboard commando nonsense. Refighting the American revolution is not going to turn the tide, even if it could be won. The mob has become far too accustomed to bread and circuses to want such a change. This slavery has daycare, convenient shopping, and basic cable.

I certainly won't deny that there has been a huge departure from the principles which the founders set forth. But the next revolution in this country is not going to be old timey patriots returning us to liberty, it will be socialists ushering in more state tyranny.

All this vote-with-a-bullet rhetoric is just so much noise. It doesn't take an organization to pull a trigger. I am sure that some of us will fight when cornered, but we cannot agree on what 'cornered' means. There isn't going to be some kind of door-to-door outrage, because there doesn't need to be. Your freedom doesn't get stolen, it gets eroded. There is not going to be one big event, it is a series of tiny events. Until a single event becomes personal nobody is going to rain down the blood and fire. Nobody is willing to make their own children orphans for a gesture.

Of all of the Blogs that I have read covering the City Council shooting nobody (myself included) has said that the shooter is a patriot, fighting back against an unjust system - because nobody wants to risk backing a psycho. Why wasn't the Oklahoma city bombing the catalyst to ignite the rebellion against the government? Because McVeigh was a terrorist, and patriots (rightly) don't want to be associated with bombing daycare centers.

If you want the quick solution to return to personal freedom it is simply a matter of amassing enough wealth. You can then become exempt from just about any rules that don't feel like following. If you can get ahead of the cost curve, it is easier to simply do whatever you want and pay the fines or give marching orders to your army of lawyers. The ruling class has always had the greater share of liberty.

If you want to effect change for the masses you need to undermine the institutions that are contributing to the decline. You need a foothold in the media and to influence popular culture. Your educational institutions need to quit pumping out radical leftist professors and trial attorneys. Incrementalism can work both ways.

Comments

I don't know that the OK bombing is the right example.

OTOH, compare New Orleans to Lexington and Concord.

I guess wasn't clear. OK bombing could be a trigger for those waiting for someone else to do something first, so I take your point.
