Teenage nut job kills his family, and some moron poses the question:

What would have happened if he didn't have access to that gun? Would he have used a different weapon, perhaps a knife? Would he have clubbed them to death? Would he have searched for another gun somewhere? Would the family have lived a little while longer or had a better chance of surviving if any of those were the case?

The short answer - no. I can't think of anyway to safely live with someone who will kill all the members of his immediate family in their sleep.

Supposing that some level of gun prohibition would have made a difference is idiocy. The only locking mechanism that would have prevented this tragedy is on the door to a jail cell.

Obviously had any other object or weapon been used the original author would not have bothered even posting. The mechanism of injury is not the problem here.
