You are reading me right. I would like to see a little more thought put into what the end goal is and how to get there.

In fairness, I could see why your original article was taken as it was. It did tend to come across as "mods are bad". But upon re-read, especially in light of this clarifying article, it's more like "mods should serve a purpose towards your end goal". Plus, that you should learn from the experiences of others.... if the defensive handgunner guys are doing X and you're a defensive handgunner, consider what those guys are doing and why. If you want to shoot IPSC, see what the top IPSC guys are doing and why. That doesn't mean you have to clone them, but that likely there's a reason Rob Leatham doesn't have a bipod on the end of his IPSC gun. ;-)

So your point is, if you're going to mod, mod with a purpose that serves the end goal.

But I guess, if the end goal is to have the most tacticool AR well... serve that goal, but don't necessarily expect it to serve other goals as well. ;-)

Am I reading you right?

Anyway, good stuff and a good exchange between you and Linoge, even if you two don't agree. :-)
